Study tips
Why you should take notes
Taking notes is a key part of online learning – and the learning process, in general.
How to organize and take notes
Initially, taking notes can feel overwhelming. You may find it challenging to decide what's worth writing down and how to do that. Here are some tips for more effectively taking and organizing your notes.
Staying on pace
Balancing your studying with attending online classes and preparing for assignments can be challenging, especially if you're new to online learning. So, how do you keep your focus and avoid feeling overwhelmed?
There are three keys to being successful while learning online.
- Get organized. Be sure to check eConestoga each day and download and explore the Zoom meeting software. Keep detailed notes of your classroom and textbook learnings in a central, accessible place. If you're taking notes on a computer, be sure to regularly back up your information or store it in the cloud. Finally, create a calendar that shows your assignment deadlines and the dates of your exams.
- Plan ahead. Schedule time to organize your notes, prepare for your assignments, and study for your exams. Use a planning tool – like a planner, calendar, or app – that can help you stay on task and remind you of any upcoming due dates. Be sure to leave yourself ample time and avoid cramming, which can increase your stress and result in lower quality work.
- Stay connected. Check your student email every day. Be sure to regularly keep in touch with your instructor and teaching assistants and never be afraid to ask for help or clarification. Finally, always participate in online discussions, as directed.
Studying with spaced practice
