Plumbing Theory I

Description:

This course will introduce students to the tools, materials, equipment, methods and current regulations as they relate to the design and construction of piping systems in the plumbing field. Students will demonstrate the ability to identify, select and construct common plumbing piping materials as they would be used in field practice. This course will introduce students to the Ontario Building Code relating to Plumbing. Students will use the current regulations to recognize, describe size and analyze drainage waste and vent installations.

Description: In this course, the student will be introduced to a variety of both hand tools and power tools, and will be expected to safely demonstrate the ability to identify, select and use the tools to construct piping and construction projects using a variety of materials. Working in accordance with relevant legislation, the student will rough-in water supplies, wastes, and vents, and further develop their skills to thread, groove, and solder. The student will also design, install and test a two-piece washroom rough-in.

Plumbing Theory III

Description:

In this course students will identify the properties and installation methods of plumbing pipes, use piping tables and other devices to determine fitting allowances, the principles and installation procedures for domestic hot water systems, water heating systems and explain the principles, components and types of drain plans, stack elevations, wastes and venting. It will also enable the student to explain the Ontario Plumbing Regulation and use it to determine proper trap sizes, drain sizes, and vent sizes and their applications.

Description:

In this course the student is introduced to the concepts of the Oxy-Fuel Welding (OFW), Brazing (OFB), and Cutting (OFC) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) processes. Students will weld various joint types on mild steel and use these processes to make straight and bevel cuts, pierce holes and cut shapes out of mild steel plate. Students will also learn about the required process equipment and demonstrate safe set up procedures and proper usage.

  5. Interpret plans and specifications to ensure plumbing projects comply with relevant regulations such as the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and National Building Code (NBC).
  6. Collaborate with team members to meet scheduling, cost, quality of craftsmanship, and other plumbing project requirements.
  7. Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems to reach desired energy efficiency results and solve system problems.
  8. Assess, organize, and manage equipment and materials to ensure compliance with industry standards and plumbing project specifications.
  9. Adhere to construction standards, health and safety rules, and ethical practices to promote safe working environments, professionalism, quality, and sustainability within the plumbing trade.
