Program description - January 2025

Completion of this three-year program will allow students to obtain an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in the field of financial planning. The program will provide students with all the technical educational requirements leading to the Qualified Associate Financial Planner™ designation through FP Canada™. Successful students will have gained the foundational knowledge to support their progress towards licensing examinations within the securities, mutual funds, and insurance industries in Canada. This progressive course of study combines courses designed at Conestoga with those originating from industry standard setting organizations to prepare students for career opportunities in banking, insurance, private wealth, brokerage and/or independent practice.

Note:

  • Students have the option to challenge the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and the Life Licensing Qualifying Program (LLQP) industry examinations, which provide credentials that are highly sought after by employers. There could be additional fees associated with both industry examinations.
  • Advanced standing pathways are available for program graduates.
  • Graduates of this program can apply directly to the third year of Conestoga College's Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) – Financial Services degree program. Graduates of this diploma program will receive two years of credit towards the BCOMM degree program if they achieve a 70% overall average.
  • Graduates of our Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) – Financial Services degree program will be eligible to enrol in the CFP® Professional Education Program through FP Canada on the path to CFP certification.

Funded by the federal and provincial governments, OSAP is intended to promote equality of opportunity for post-secondary studies through direct financial assistance for educational costs and living expenses. These interest-free loans are intended to supplement your financial resources and those of your family. The majority of students apply for loan assistance via the OSAP website. Students can also print the application booklet through the OSAP website. For more information, please visit OSAP & aid.
