Audio and Video Production 1

Description:

In this course, students learn the basics of audio and video production through the process of factual storytelling. Starting with planning and production logistics to basic technical requirements, students will review field audio practices from microphone choice to the use of a multi-channel external audio recorder. Students will also be introduced to a variety of camera types and will apply fundamental camera techniques to capture creative images using the correct technical specifications and industry standards. The audio and video will then be brought together through an introduction to editing.

Event Marketing

The ultimate success of an event is not only smooth logistics but also who attends and whether the message and purpose of the event were conveyed. In this course, students are introduced to event marketing, where they will learn to optimize an event through branding, the use of hosts, sponsors, and various promotion techniques.

Introduction to Esports

Description:

One of the fasted growing event categories today is esports. Whether in-person stadium experiences or worldwide online tournaments, esports has taken the event world by storm. New technology and approaches used in esports are being adopted widely by the event industry, especially as more and more events are being offered in a hybrid format. In this course, students will be introduced to esports. Taught in Conestoga's Esports Hub, students will review esports tournaments looking at event structure, logistics, and technology as well as, game culture and the psychology of play.

Event Logistics 1

Description:

Running a smooth event requires planning and flawless execution. In this course, students are introduced to the production of events. Understanding the purpose of the event and assessing the needs of the occasion is the first step in executing a successful event. Using a small event as the base, students will review what to look for when choosing a venue. Through a site check, students will assess the availability of logistical needs such as power, stage location, audience space, light sources, public access, and parking. Students will also be introduced to the budgeting and scheduling of the elements that bring the event together.

Esports has become a booming industry and hosting successful events requires an understanding of the business of esports. This course examines the law and ethics applicable to esports including intellectual property. Students will review human resource practices, negotiations, sourcing of venues and equipment, vendor relations, working with unions, and team management.

Description:

Building on the skills learned in Event Logistics 1 students review the needs for more involved events. Event Planning

Description:

Getting from the launch to the end of an event successfully requires careful planning to ensure all needs are met. In this course, students dive into the details of planning a successful event. From venue logistics to attendee needs students will work through all potential event elements using event planning software. Students will also learn to budget and schedule more complex events.

Streaming and Hybrid Events

Description:

Esports streaming sites not only bring fans major esports events, but they also enable players to stream their own gameplay and allow fans to follow their favorite players and shoutcasters. Streaming conferences and events have become a normal course of business, but much can be learned from how esports brings excitement to streamed tournaments to bring energy to a corporate event. In this course, students will review the technical, logistical set-up and entertainment value introduced through esports and how they can transfer that knowledge to corporate and public events via live, streamed, or hybrid events.

Esports Event Production

Description:

In this course, students learn how to host a successful esports tournament. Students will review the technical set-up and execution of an esports tournament. From Conestoga's Esports Hub, students will be part of a production team capable of streaming multi-player events to the public. Students will take on key esports production roles such as producer, director, camera, audio mixer, and production manager. From the streaming control room on site, students will follow the game action of several players.

Large events, concerts, and even esports tournaments have turned to multiple screens to convey messaging and add a layer of excitement in the room. In this course, students will learn to program content to appear on multiple screens consecutively or in a sequence. Students will also learn how to produce engaging content appropriate for the on-stage activities and messaging while informing and entertaining the audience.

Description:

In this final logistics course, students continue to add elements of complexity to events. Students will examine large multi-day community or corporate events, identifying elements that can take place in-person and those which can be offered remotely. Students will review and break down the logistics and technical needs of each aspect of the larger event.
