Program description - September 2025

The General Arts and Science: English Language Studies (ELS) program has 4 levels ranging from beginning English language learners to Level 4 for high intermediate and advanced learners of English. Our program will offer you skill-based courses that are dedicated to focusing on your reading, writing, listening, pronunciation and speaking skills. Along with these core language courses, you will also take credit-based courses that focus specifically on student success and knowledge about Canadian society. This intensive program focuses on academic English language skills that will prepare you for success in college/university, or your career. Prospective students will be placed in one of the 4 levels based on the results of our Conestoga English Language Assessment and Placement (CELAP) test and will be taught by TESL-certified professors.

You will have the choice to take hybrid on-campus or fully online delivery modes each semester, which is 15 weeks long, including one ‘Student Success Week’.

Please note: The following categories of domestic applicants can enrol in the General Arts and Science: English Language Studies program (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and refugees or convention refugees). Classes run based on minimum enrolment requirements.

Please note: For international students only, we offer mid-term entry into our program in March, July, and November for new international students. These accelerated, 7-week delivery options will require a higher language placement test score. Please contact the ELS program coordinator if you have any questions.
