Program description - September 2026

Videography, editing, TV, radio, event production, multimedia content creation, social media marketing, journalism, photography.

Unsure which area to focus on? This one-year certificate program lets you explore and discover each of these elements for a career in media. Find your passion. Narrow your focus. Then, transfer these credits to advanced Conestoga programs including Journalism, TV, Radio, and Esports & Event Media Production.

Professional video production and creative communication are in-demand skills across diverse fields. In Media Foundations, you'll build a solid foundation in highly transferable skills through:

    • hands-on learning in labs and our HD TV studio with industry experts
    • utilizing industry-standard software and equipment
    • project-based, experiential learning
    • creative storytelling and content creation
    • individual and collaborative team projects

Pathways

Media Foundations is a direct pathway to Conestoga's Journalism program, sharing a common core first year. Upon completing Media Foundations, students may choose to enter Year 2 of Journalism and graduate with a Media Foundations Ontario College Certificate and a Journalism Ontario College Diploma.

Additionally, Media Foundations offers advanced standing in related Conestoga diploma programs, including Broadcasting: Television & Independent Production, Broadcast - Radio, and Esports and Event Media Production. Contact the Program Coordinator to explore specific transfer credit opportunities.

Students who do not have university-level English but achieve at least 65% in COMM1085 in the first term of Media Foundations will meet the requirements to apply to many diploma programs at Conestoga.
