Program description - January 2025

Pharmacy technicians are important members of the interprofessional health care team, working with pharmacists, interacting with a range of other health care professionals, and engaging directly with patients. Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of environments, including hospitals, community pharmacies, and long-term care pharmacies. If you are interested in health care, and have an aptitude for science, problem solving and organization, and a desire to assist patients who require a range of pharmacy services, the Pharmacy Technician program may be a perfect fit for you.

This two-year Ontario College Diploma is designed to meet the entry-to-practice competency requirements of the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA). As a graduate, you will be eligible to pursue registration as a pharmacy technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), according to its licensing requirements, complete the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) exam, and OCP Jurisprudence Exam.

This fully integrated program includes the basic biological sciences, pharmacology, pharmaceutical calculations, compounding and sterile preparations. Through a combination of theory, practical laboratories and work experience placements, graduates are prepared to practice to the full scope of a Registered Pharmacy Technician as they receive, order and manage inventory, prepare, compound and dispense medications, and assist with the provision of pharmaceutical care and pharmacy services.

Conestoga's Pharmacy Technician program has been awarded Qualifying Accreditation status by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs.

Note:

  • This is a highly competitive program. Apply by February 1 (for September). See oversubscribed programs for more information.
  • Students living outside of Ontario are not eligible to apply.
